'Hell Here' by Helen Astin-Hardman
Being a Satanist and agnostic is no easy task. Hoping for a better life at uni, where she can escape her tragic past Helen enrols on a fine art course at Huddersfield University.
But when Helen starts hearing voices however, her world begins to unravel, unknown to her she is developing paranoid schizophrenia, which takes her on a painful journey, that inevitably changes her.
This memoir, told in the form of letters, written to people that Helen knew and to the voices in her head, is beautifully described using poetry and prose, giving people a glimpse of her world, and the harsh realities of living with and recovering from schizophrenia. The book holds no punches when describing the torments wrought by the illness and the story will linger after the last page is turned.
